Ryan Poles is not a man known for sitting on his hands. The
Chicago Bears GM has continued to churn the bottom of his roster hoping to find more help for his team. It doesn't matter if it's a potential starter or emergency backup. Every move could be significant. That includes signing undrafted rookies. The Bears have already added several this off-season. Over 20 at last count. Now they could be in line to add another.
According to Jacob Infante of Windy City Gridiron, the team plans to meet with former Texas Southern defensive end next week for a workout. He is a player the team has kept close tabs on since the spring. After going undrafted in April, Badejo received interest from the CFL and other NFL teams but didn't sign anywhere. Then it looked like he was poised to join the latest incarnation of the XFL owned by Dwayne Johnson. Now the Bears might throw him an even bigger lifeline.
Chicago Bears have reasons to like Badejo.
First of all, they may need more help at defensive end soon.
Robert Quinn remains a holdout from practices and is an unknown for training camp. In addition, Al Quadin-Muhammad has been nursing an undisclosed injury. Badejo would bring some needed depth to the position. Then there is also the fact he's talented. Though on the shorter side at 6'2, he displays surprising speed and strength for a defensive end. His 4.80 in the 40-yard dash and 19 reps in the bench press demonstrated that.
Production improved steadily throughout his collegiate career, ending with three sacks, six QB hits, and 14 pressures in 2021. His game is centered around long arms, violent hands, and a non-stop motor. Guys like that tend to stick around in the NFL if they're appropriately cultivated. The Chicago Bears have an experienced coaching staff, especially on the defensive side. They'll know if Badejo has anything to offer once they see him up close.
