Dent was a nobody when the 1983 draft rolled around. He was a nondescript kid from tiny Tennessee State. He had quickness that teams liked but they were concerned about his size. Dent had the length but his overall body was on the thinner side, making many wonder if he could handle the rigors of the NFL. This is what led to him falling all the way to the 8th round before the Bears finally scooped him up.

The Bears noticed Dent’s bad teeth and paid to straighten them. It always had hurt him to eat, and once his teeth were fixed, he quickly gained 30 pounds and became a different player."
