Insider Lets Slip Who Chicago Bears Hope To Land At #39

Things unfolded about as well for the Chicago Bears as they could've hoped in the 1st round. One week ago, draft insider Todd McShay revealed that Colston Loveland was much higher on the team's board than what was being reported. Sure enough, they secured the tight end with the 10th overall pick. The love affair blossomed at the Michigan pro day, where he and head coach Ben Johnson hit it off. Now the Bears go into the second day for a chance to make this draft an impactful one. They hold two picks early in the 2nd round, starting with #39. Several good players remain available. Do they have a preference?

The short answer is yes. Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado let it slip while discussing the Denver Broncos' draft strategy for day two. A fan asked him what must be done to land Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson. Allbright's answer was impossible to misinterpret.

It is plain as day that if any team picking later in the 2nd round wants Henderson, they have to get in front of Chicago at #39. He seems confident that the Bears have their sights on the running back, something he's been saying since the beginning of April.

The Chicago Bears' interest in Henderson is easy to understand.

Many see him as the most explosive running back in this class. He's fast, agile, quick, and slippery. The comparison to Jahmyr Gibbs isn't an accident. Johnson coached Gibbs in Detroit. Everybody knows he isn't overly fond of D'Andre Swift since he had no issues letting the Lions trade him two years ago. Henderson is a more complete player, too, showcasing some of the best pass protection skills in the class. Many felt he was good enough to go in the 1st round. Landing him at #39 would be a boon for the Chicago Bears.

Whether he gets that far is another story. He may go near the start of the round, particularly to the Cleveland Browns, who hold picks #33 and #36. If by some chance he does get through, this offense will become one of the most talented the organization has ever put together.
