The Chicago Bears are reportedly in the market for help at offensive tackles. Word is they're keeping a close eye on what many see as the most talented and deep draft class seen in years. Among those names is Washington's Trey Adams. Many saw him as a future 1st round pick back in 2017. Unfortunately his stock took a hit thanks to knee and back injuries that slowed his progress. That said, he still looks good on tape and could be a steal in later rounds if he can stay healthy.
He's probably not the first name on the Bears' draft board going into April. However, they might have to reconsider that now. Why? It comes courtesy of an interview Adams did at the combine. One in which he gave arguably the greatest answer in the history of everything. The question was innocent enough. "If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?"
His response was equal parts honest, hilarious, and just so magnificent.
Trey Adams seems like a character, and that's a good thing
One thing you'll often hear championship teams say about themselves? They were a bunch of "characters with character." Adams definitely seems like that sort of guy. A talented football player who has clear eccentricities. What teams need to know is whether he can recover the form he had in 2016 before the injuries hit.
"His pass sets look pretty and he still possesses adequate movement talent, but his struggles to withstand force against his edge as a run blocker and pass protector should be a red flag for most offensive line coaches. Gathering medical info and determining recovery potential will be critical in projecting his pro prospects."
Adams didn't have a good combine, posting a rough time in the 40-yard dash (5.60) and just a 24.5-inch vertical jump. Clearly those injuries linger but hope remains he can work to regain what he lost. He might be worth a flier in the 4th round if he ends up falling.
