Matt Nagy had a tough decision to make. The offense was floundering. The defense was struggling to stop Atlanta. His Chicago Bears desperately needed a spark. So he did what nobody thought he'd have the courage to do. At least not this early in the season. He looked to the bench and went with Nick Foles.
Mitch Trubisky didn't have the worst stat line in the world, but that didn't tell the whole story. He was terrible for most of that game, and against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. There was no excuse for him to be playing so poorly. Nagy couldn't take it anymore. Foles couldn't possibly be worse.
He definitely was. It didn't start great. The veteran came dangerously close to a couple of interceptions early and actually had one picked in the end zone. However, that wasn't his fault as Allen Robinson had his hands on it first before (again) having it taken away.
After that, things got crazy. Foles began to find open receivers. Before anybody could blink, the Bears scored twice to narrow the gap from 26-10 to 26-23. Facing 3rd and 8 from the 28-yard line, he could've easily settled for a field goal to tie it. Foles showed that's not the way he thinks.
