Matt Nagy finally reached his last straw. Yes, the Chicago Bears started the season 2-0 and Mitch Trubisky was part of that. Yet record never tells the full story. The fourth-year quarterbacks had some bursts of good but also a lot of bad. The first three quarters in Detroit. Then the second half against New York. Granted some of the miscues weren't his fault but things finally reached the boiling point for Nagy in Atlanta.
Despite playing a badly depleted Atlanta Falcons defense in a stadium with no crowd noise, Trubisky regained his old form from 2019. He ran the full gambit from missing wide open deep throws, taking bad sacks, not running when he should, and getting fooled by disguised coverages way too often. Following an ugly interception in the 3rd quarter, the breaking point was reached.
Nagy pulled Trubisky from the game and put in Nick Foles. It was not injury-related in any way. So this was clearly a decision based on play. It's hard not to feel like this is the end of an era for another disappointing Bears quarterback. It would be a surprise if Foles is not the starter moving forward.
