Proof that Mitch Trubisky Must Only Be Good for Bears to Be Great

It's been a tough life for Chicago Bears fans over the years. They're not stupid. They saw what the NFL was morphing into. They saw the rule changes all slowly steering everything towards accentuating the quarterback position. If a team had a good QB, the odds are they'd win a lot of game. For one reason or another, the Bears just couldn't keep up with this trend. Drafting Mitch Trubisky was their hope to change that. Things didn't get off to a good start. He endured a rough situation as a rookie, playing in a lackluster scheme with limited weapons. Not to mention dealing with considerable inexperience coming out of North Carolina. So the Bears spent the entire 2018 offseason correcting those issues with a new coaching staff and new weapons. After an up-and-down three games to start the year, he exploded for six touchdown passes against the Buccaneers in week four. People are now asking the question. Does this mean Trubisky is on the cusp of becoming elite? The quick answer is it's way too early for that. Also, there's another answer. One that people have failed to grasp for years. Trubisky doesn't have to be great for this team to contend. Only good.

Bears were almost unstoppable when Mitch Trubisky has 100+ rating

Trubisky has started 16 games in his young NFL career to this point. That's one full season of work. In that time he has posted a passer rating of 100 points or more four times. The Bears were 3-1 in those games. The loss was the narrow 15-14 defeat against San Francisco. It's held true throughout Bears history. Since the start of the Super Bowl era in 1966, a Bears quarterback has posted a 100+ rating 130 times including Trubisky. Chicago is 103-27 in those games. Think about that. This franchise has won almost four times as many football games as they've lost when the quarterback plays what would be considered a "good" game. Not necessarily great. This further puts into perspective how colossal a failure they've endured trying to get that position right for so long. It definitely robbed them of Super Bowl opportunities. Ryan Pace was the first GM who made it crystal clear that the half-assed attention paid to quarterbacks in Chicago was over. His work over the past year reflects that change of culture. This Bears team doesn't need Trubisky to be Aaron Rodgers. They only need him to be good. A Rich Gannon, or a Boomer Esiason, or a Mark Brunell. Somebody who can put up 21 points a game. That's it. If this team can score that much each week, it will be difficult to beat them. This has been the truth of Bears football for decades.
