As new Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy began to piece together his staff, a trend emerged. First with offensive line coach Chris Morgan and then wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert. The two men had never worked together before nor with Getsy. However, they did have something in common. Now the final piece of evidence is falling into place as the Bears zero in on their next quarterbacks coach, Andrew Janocko.
All three men have worked in the Shanahan-style offensive system. The outside zone running scheme that has become such a success since Mike Shanahan first implemented it back in the 1990s. Since then his son Kyle Shanahan along with others like Gary Kubiak, Sean McVay, and Matt Lafleur have utilized it to great success. Janocko worked with Kubiak in Minnesota while Morgan worked with Kyle in Atlanta and Tolbert with Kubiak in Denver. These men know the Shanahan system and how complicated it can be to coach.
So it's not a surprise Getsy targeted them.

He played football at Pitt University from 2007 to 2010, during a period when Dave Wannstedt was the head coach. Realizing he had no future as a player, he transitioned to coaching in 2011. His first NFL stint came a year later with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This drew the attention of the Minnesota Vikings who brought him aboard in 2015 as a quality control coach. Within two years he was the assistant offensive line coach. Things changed though when Kubiak took over in 2020. It was there Janocko was made wide receivers coach. That same year Justin Jefferson set a rookie record with 1,400 receiving yards. This success led to a promotion to quarterbacks coach in 2021. Kirk Cousins ended up having one of the best seasons of his career, throwing for a 103.1 passer rating with 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. At just 33-years old, it feels like the Chicago Bears got a young coach who is starting to realize his potential.
