For the first time since 2011, the Cubs and White Sox had players of the week for their respective leagues, as Kris Bryant and Eloy Jimenez were named NL and AL Players of the Week on Monday.
Bryant has been destroying the baseball since returning to the Cubs lineup on Tuesday in San Diego. He hit two home runs against the Padres and then three more during the weekend against the Pirates, including his second two-homer game of the week on Sunday. Bryant also set a new Cubs record for most home runs through his first five seasons with the team, passing Ernie Banks.
Meanwhile, Jimenez has been on fire in September, posting a 1.071 OPS in 57 at-bats. Last week he terrorized the Royals, hitting a grand slam and a three-run homer in two games. After back-to-back four-RBI games against Kansas City, Eloy went 6-for-12 against the Mariners, scoring four runs and driving in two.
