The Cubs officially announced the signing of right-handed reliever Dan Winkler to a one-year split contract.
Winkler, who will be 30-years-old next season, has thrown 100.1 innings over five MLB seasons with the Braves.
The split contract is valued at $750k, meaning Winkler will get a pro-rated amount for the time he spends on the MLB roster with the Cubs and a different salary when he's in the minors.
Winkler has a career 3.68 ERA in 117 relief appearances.
The Cubs also officially named Dan Kantrovitz as the organization's new VP of Scouting. His hiring was first reported in November. Kantrovitz spent the last five years as the assistant GM for the A's. He also previously served as the VP of Scouting for the Cardinals between 2012-14.
Jasmine Horan has also joined the Cubs an amateur scouting analyst.
And in other news former Cubs reliever Brad Brach re-signed with the Mets and in doing so is saving the Cubs almost $1 million.
Nice little stocking stuffer for one of the Ricketts this Christmas.
