With Spring Training right around the corner, Cubs players have begun to get back into the groove of things and attempt to put that World Series championship behind them. Pitchers and catchers will report to Mesa in just 22 days so the expected Opening Day starting catcher, Willson Contreras, has begun to get his body ready for the grind of his first full Major League season.
Contreras posted a video on his Instagram story today of him taking some hacks in the batting cages. I'm also glad to see he's taking swings with a customized Bulls jersey on as well.

Contreras wasn't alone during BP session however and be warned Cubs fans, his partner in the cages may make you cringe just a little bit.

Nobody can doubt that Contreras has been working hard this off season to be the Cubs everyday catcher. Since the Cubs won the World Series in November, Contreras has been living in the weight room and getting all his swings in during his short time off.
Here's some of his work from two days ago.

Contreras had a fellow Venezuelan with him in the cages today that will probably make Cubs fans a bit sad when they see who it was.

Ahhhhh the one that got away.
You may remember Gleyber Torres as the former number one prospect in the Cubs system who has turned into the number two prospect in the New York Yankees farm system. Torres was dealt to the Yankees in the Aroldis Chapman deal but Torres and Contreras are still close from their time together in the Cubs minor league system.
I understand that the Cubs had to give up some prospects to get Chapman who then helped the team get the coveted World Series ring but that doesn't make losing a talent as great as Torres sting any less. Torres' potential is sky high and even though he's no longer with the Cubs, I hope that he finds success in New York.
Dammit that swing is pretty though.
