Calm down, it's just going to be a minor-league deal. Literally no risk for the Cubs and no guaranteed money is going to Brandon Morrow.
We first heard about a possible reunion last month and now 670 The Score's Bruce Levine is reporting that a deal between the Cubs and Morrow is expected to be agreed upon by the end of December.
Morrow, 35, hasn't pitched since July 2018. He went down with an arm injury two seasons ago, had surgery on his pitching elbow last November and just couldn't get healthy in 2019.
But when healthy Morrow has been great. The Cubs saw that in 2018, when he had a 1.47 ERA in 30.2 innings. He's a motivated guy and as much as we'll joke around every time we see an update about him throwing from x-number of feet in spring training, Morrow seems really committed to the Cubs.
Here's what Morrow's agent told the Chicago Sun-Times in November.
“I don’t believe Brandon would sign with anyone else until the Cubs decide what they want to do,” Wolfe said. “The Cubs invested a lot of time into Brandon, and money, of course, and Brandon feels a certain sense of loyalty and obligation back to the Cubs to stay with them if they want him on a minor-league contract or something like that.
“He signed with the Cubs because he thought they were the best organization out there for him, and he still believes that.”
There's no reason to hate this move. A minor league deal to see if Morrow has anything left in the tank. Easy decision. Doesn't look good in spring training, then simply say good luck and move on.
