You can go all the way back to spring training to find Cubs' players suffering from nagging injuries. Ben Zobrist had a back issue and he eventually landed on the DL in April. The same happened with Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Addison Russell, Jason Heyward, Carl Edwards Jr., Brandon Morrow, Yu Darvish and Brian Duensing, who have all spent time on the disabled list this year.
It's September and rosters have expanded, so another DL stint won't be needed, but the Cubs might be dealing with yet another nagging injury.
Kyle Schwarber launched his 25th home run last night against the Brewers and he took his sweet time running around the bases. It wasn't because he was trying to show up the Brewers (which who cares if he was, that was a moonshot) but it was because his back was hurting.
After the 6-4 win, Joe Maddon said Schwarber's back wasn't feeling too great.
Here was the play where Schwarber tweaked his back earlier in the game.
Heyward is currently on the DL with a hamstring issue and he hasn't returned to doing any practice drills yet, so this back issue for Schwarber isn't ideal.
The Cubs are starting a four-game series against Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals and Schwarber is out of Thursday's lineup.
Hopefully it's only a couple days off for Schwarber and nothing too serious.
