White Sox prospect Luis Robert must be tired from hanging up all his awards, but he'll have plenty of time to rest in the offseason after RIck Hahn decided it was best not to call up the star center fielder in September.
So, instead Robert will get more time to look at his accolades and they're starting to rack up. On Thursday, Robert was named MLB Pipeline's 2019 Hitter of the Year.
In 2018, Robert only played in 50 games and hit zero home runs after being sidelined with a hand injury. He quickly eased any concern about his swing to begin 2019, slashing a ridiculous 453/.512/.920, with eight homers at Winston-Salem. That earned him a promotion to Double-A and then Robert took full advantage of the juiced ball at Triple-A, hitting 16 home runs in 47 games with the Charlotte Knights.
Robert finished the 2019 season with 32 home runs, 36 steals and a 1.001 OPS. He was also named USA Today's Minor League Player of the Year on Wednesday.
