The White Sox already knew this was a strong possibility and on Monday their worst fears were confirmed. Left-handed starter Carlos Rodon will have season-ending Tommy John surgery and right-handed reliever Nate Jones will also have season-ending surgery after going on the injured list with a forearm issue.
Rodon made seven starts this season. The lefty pitched a career high 165 innings in 2016 and has been plagued with a variety of injuries the past couple years. Jones last pitched in a full season in 2016 as well and has suffered several arm injuries since then.
The only good news in the injury front is that rookie left fielder Eloy Jimenez is headed to Triple-A Charlotte for a rehab assignment after suffering a high ankle sprain in April.
If Rodon makes a full recovery, the White Sox believe he can return by the second half of the 2020 season.
As for Jones, this might be it for him and the White Sox. The reliever only has a team option after this season that the White Sox will most likely not pick up.
